What are chakras?
According to Margarita Alcantara Chakra Healing A Beginner’s Guide to Self-Healing Techniques that Balance the Chakras we are not merely made up of the physical body. We have layers of vibrating energy, which means that we are energy beings whose energy field vibrates at a frequency that extends beyond the physical body. The layers of energy body constitute of aura. The aura connects with the layers of your physical body and also with your energy centres called chakras.

Rosalyn L. Bruyere in her book Wheels of Light Chakras, Auras, and the Healing Energy of the Body explains that a term chakra comes from Sanskrit, which denotes ‘wheel of light’. The seven chakras are who we are, what we feel, how we think and change. The chakra system was known in ancient times and in fact, it is how we find our way back to the most ancient mystery of all – God, the Oneness, and Omniscient. Chakras are linked with all vital organs and glands in the body.
Anodea Judith in her book Wheels of Life. A User’s Guide to the Chakra System claims that chakras are gateways between different dimensions canters whereby, activity on thought and emotion has a significant impact on our physical body. This exchange has an important effect on your interaction with people and the outside world. When we talk about the experience of fear that is represented by the root chakra, it is necessary to highlight how fear affects our body in a significant way. For example, our breath is short, our voice and hands shake and we feel butterflies in our stomach. The physical representations of fear may damage our confidence in handling the world and this may result in negative treatment by others. The fear reaction might come from unresolved childhood experiences, which still rules our behaviour. Therefore, the purpose of healing chakras is to heal ourselves from constricting patterns stuck in the mind, body or habitual behaviour.
As explained by Reiki Rays in a book Heal and Balance Your Chakras with Reiki In Reiki energy healing we focus on 7 main chakras that are located from top to bottom these are crown chakra, third eye chakra, throat chakra, heart chakra, solar plexus, sacral chakra, and root chakra.
